Still blogging, but not here

It's been a year since my post about the heart attack I had last December. I am still writing, and still blogging, but not here.

I set up a Ko-fi page where I blog monthly: https://ko-fi.com/chrisstrublewrites. That seems to be about the right cadence given my busy work and home life.

Second draft is finished

This week I finished the second draft of my technical paper "Generator-based Testing: A State by State Approach". Two of my coworkers, Steven and Neelu, reviewed it and gave me helpful feedback, which I really appreciate. I sent a copy to Larry, our VP of Engineering, to ask him to review one section of the paper where I talked about my employer's business. In a department meeting he mentioned that he had read the entire paper and had given a lot of thought to it. He also asked me to present it to a department meeting in the near future. It was very nice of him to read it and to give me that public recognition. If any of my friends in the software industry would like to see the latest draft, contact me directly, and I will share it with you.

Presenting at PNSQC 2020 Conference

I just learned I have been accepted to present a paper at a software testing conference. The conference is the 2020 Pacific Northwest Software Quality Conference. My paper is called  "Generator-based Testing: A State by State Approach". I will be writing the paper and creating an online presentation over the next few months. The conference will be in October, and is normally held in Portland. But the conference organizers told me that they have decided to do the conference online this year. I think that is a great decision under the circumstances. I have been thinking lately about doing more online presentations to grow my career, this could be a great opportunity to learn how to do that effectively.

Staying home is an act of love

I was appalled at public protests this week in several states violating stay at home and physical distancing orders, and demanding that businesses be allowed to re-open. These protesters, who seemed to be overwhelmingly white, drove in trucks past their state capitals, and in some cases, waved confederate flags, and carried guns. I don’t know if any of those actions were illegal. But those who congregated in the hundreds along parade routes and in other dense formations were breaking the law. More importantly, they were endangering other people. The stay at home and physical distancing measures that most states have implemented were a necessary response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the most lethal global plague in a hundred years. As I write, it has killed over 160,000 people worldwide, and over 40,000 Americans. That is more Americans dead in a few weeks than were killed in combat (33,686) in the entire Korean War.
