Why I do not fear Bernie Sanders

I have been hearing a lot on social media in recent days about Bernie Sanders and how his being a "democratic socialist" means he cannot become President. I am a Democrat and will be voting for one of the Democratic candidates in the Washington state primary. I haven't decided who I will vote for yet this year. But what I want to address here is the idea that being a socialist is somehow not allowed, or is even something to be afraid of. The first point I would make is that democratic socialism is not the same as communism. Numerous countries are democratic socialist, including Canada, Sweden, Denmark, and many others. If a nation creates new social programs through democratic means, that is democracy, not dictatorship. Yet we are told that Americans are not allowed to be socialists either. But then what are we allowed to be? Capitalists? Hardly. A capitalist is someone whose sole job is to acquire capital. For me, that means someone who owns a business with emplo

Abstract for PNSQC 2020 Conference

This week I submitted a draft abstract for a technical paper for the 2020 Pacific Northwest Quality Conference. I won't know for a few months if the abstract gets accepted. But what if your organization is heavily invested in a different testing technique? How do you get to a state where your colleagues adopt your technique successfully? In Generator-based Testing (GBT), a tool generates software test cases that are executed automatically. Examples include Model-based testing (MBT), Property-based testing (PBT), and Fuzzing. Each of these techniques involves structure and randomness, with software behavior being described to the tool

Shield of the Goddess - Book Idea and Sample Chapter

Another writing project I am working on is a novel I call Shield of the Goddess. SUMMARY Shield of the Goddess is set in Kishana, a fantasy world rich in myth, music, and magic. Jenan, horse archer of Feros, must protect the beautiful priestess Shala, for she alone can find the Shield of Peace, a legendary magical artifact that can save their ancient city from the horde of the Skethian empire, desert tribes poised to conquer the continent. CAVEAT Shield of the Goddess is an adult fantasy, that depicts an ancient world for modern readers. If fits how I see the world. If it does not fit how you see the world, feel free to write a novel that does. I won't stop you. SAMPLE CHAPTER This is a sample chapter. I have changed the story flow since I wrote this chapter, so when I finish the novel it will start differently. But all the characters in this sample will be part of the novel. CHAPTER 1 - THE SPEAR Jenan of Feros decided it was time to get out of here. Time to warn his p
